Brugmansia Newbie
In the fall of 2002 we decided to kill all the grass and after the second spraying of round up it was also time to lay out the new Brugmansia Garden bed.  Here are the steps that we took. From laying this out with the garden hose, cutting the edges with our Martha Steware half moon edger, to covering the beds with newsprint to suppress the weeds, then covering with compost, mulch and manure and left to sit over the winter month before planting.

Then the Spring rains came and we were under water for 2 weeks so it was time to repot and place them all above ground due to the high water table we have been seeing due to density of development.

Fall 2007 - Spring 2008~~ Neighboring issues have made us rethink our back yard design and what will be grown back there.  As you can see we are switching to hostas with space for the Brugmansia to be placed between the hostas when issues are settled.

South Datura bed w/ hostas.    Southern Brugmansia bed that is now planted w/ Hostas

The removal of plant material on the north fence line is what is our major project this
spring 2008.  Above you will see the Wisteria is now gone and we have cut the Rose of Sharon to half their size.

We are currently down to the one tree stump and the last Arborvitea in front of
the shed that need to be removed.

Northern Brugmansia bed w/NW corner in hostas.  As you can see around the center
circle bed are the Brugs that were pulled early before snow, we will have to see
if they are lost?  North chainlink fence is being cleared out and as soon as the
issues of the property line are settled we then can put up our privacy fence.  We
are removing the Cypress and Arborvitea so that this fencing can be put up.  There
are some serious changes being made to the back and we will update when we can.
We are just sick as this area used to the home of the 300+ Brugmansia we loved dearly! Yes we are sick with the loss of 213 and the other plants that had to be taken out.

With the moving of the neighboring fence 8/10/08 we have been able to get our privacy fence put in and we would love to at this time show you what work has been completed.

Now we begin the process of relandscaping this area and most of enjoy the privacy!
Fences do make for good neighbors and let me tell you this has been a learning process.
If you live in Clark County WA and you have a development going in next to you, please heed the warning put in your own fence!!  Know where your monuments are located and if you don't know where they are do hire a licensed and bonded survey compant to locate them. There are more photos at this site if you care to see just how bad the fences to the new subdivision have become and the fact that one can remove the boards so don't get caugh off guard.  So if you value privacy put up your own fence.

Yes we will be working on the west fence next due to the fact some folks feel they can trespass and hop fences.  Do post your property, 'No Trespassing!'

It's so nice to see Brugmansia back in the bed that they were designed to grow in and hopefully next year we can start getting the collection back up to the hundreds we have grown in the past.
